The Calling Behind the Numbers: Why I’m a CPA Who Cares

By the time most people call a CPA, they’re either stressed, stuck, or about to make a big move like:

  • A tax deadline.
  • An audit letter.
  • A meeting with a bank or investor.

That moment, the space between fear and decision, is where I’ve built my reputation.

I’m Dr. Lilly Mbinglo. And for the past seven years, I’ve led The Ark NPS, a CPA firm trusted by over 1,300+ clients.

Here’s the truth behind that number:

  • 55% are individuals navigating life’s financial complexities, taxes, saving money, reducing stress, and building confidence.
  • 30% are business owners who needed clean books before meeting investors or banks.
  • 15% are nonprofit leaders trying to secure grants and keep their financial house in order.

These numbers represent real people. Real stories.

People like Relindis K-Mutia, who shared:

“Dr. Lilly is truly the best CPA you could ever hope to meet! Her expertise and dedication are unmatched… She explained everything in a clear, approachable manner, ensuring we felt informed and empowered.”

Or David Adebowale, who said:

“Dr. Lilly and The Ark NPS made my whole tax process so much easier. I really appreciate how thorough and professional they are. I’ll definitely be coming back next year and recommending them to friends and family.”

These clients needed more than just tax strategies and financial reports. They needed clarity. Confidence. Strategy. And someone who wouldn’t just do the numbers, but stand in the gap.

I’ve sat across from families who didn’t know they could legally save thousands on taxes.

I’ve coached startup founders just days away from pitching investors, cleaning up years of bookkeeping mess. I’ve taught nonprofit directors how to prepare financial funders.

And when I’m not doing that, I’m in the classroom, teaching accounting courses to MBA & MSC students at Regent University, training the next generation not just to pass exams, but to understand the weight of integrity behind the numbers.

People don’t call me “the best CPA” because I have a fancy office or a long resume (though I do). They say it because I show up. I explain things in plain language. I care. I answer every question. I make sure you leave more empowered than you came.

This isn’t just a business. It’s a mission.

It’s why I offer free tax training. It’s why I host virtual events for women and small businesses.

It’s why I do pro bono consulting for those who can’t afford it.

And it’s why The Ark NPS holds an A+ BBB rating and I was recognized among the Top 25 Finance Thought Leaders by Thinkers360.

Being a CPA isn’t a job to me, it’s purpose is with numbers attached.

And as new CPAs step into this noble path, I don’t just want them to succeed, I want them to thrive. I want them to serve with excellence, lead with integrity, and avoid the mistakes that nearly cost me everything.

That’s why I’m opening up and sharing 11 of the hardest, most painful lessons I’ve learned in this journey. Mistakes that could cost you your license, your peace of mind, or your credibility, if you don’t see them coming.

Watch this space. I will share 11 lessons in this series.
